Major Works 2015

2015 – Athabasca Flats East Servicing

The Scope of Work Included:

In April of 2015, Lake Excavating Ltd., won the publicly tender bid for the construction of the Athabasca Flats East Servicing contract in the Town of Whitecourt, AB. The project was set in a particularly wet difficult setting that required us to pump down the ground water below the lowest points of the project, which in some cases were over 7.5 meters deep.

2015 – Teck Highland Valley Copper HDPE Fusing Contract

The Scope of Work Included:

Lake Excavating Ltd/NNTC JV was awarded the contract by Highland Valley Copper to complete the construction of their Tailings Discharge Pipe ReRoute. The job included removing and disassembling the old 24” tailings discharge lines while managing to keep the tailing discharge active. During the construction of the new line, Lake Excavating was responsible to fuse and flange together the new 30” DR 15.5 HDPE tailing discharge line.

2015 – Mount Polley, Quesnel Lake Outfall Installation Support Work Contract

The Scope of Work Included:

During the month of September, Lake Excavating & the Williams Lake Indian Band Partnership were awarded the Quesnel Lake Outfall Installation Support Work Contract. The two part contract required fusing together 2, 450m 24″ lines and the second part included fusing together 2, 320m lines submerged underwater.

2015 – Athabasca Flats Phase 1 Single Family Site

Scope of Work Included:

In September of 2015, Lake Excavating Ltd. was contracted to build 27 new single family lots in Whitecourt, AB. The project began with the installation of the deep utilities and services to each individual lot. Once the deep utilities were installed, Lake Excavating was required to bring in over 40,000 cubic meters of import fill material to raise the site to the proper grade levels.

2015 – Coyote Rock Frontage Road and Subdivision Development

Scope of Work Included:

For this Project, Lake Excavating Ltd. partnered up with the Williams Lake Indian Band to begin the construction of the Coyote Rock Frontage Road and Subdivision. Beginning in August 2015, Lake Excavating Ltd. began the dirt work and common excavation required to build the base of the project.

Major Works 2014

2014 – BC Hydro ILM Section 3A & Mini Excavator Work:

The Scope of Work Included:

Working in partnership with the NNTC First Nations Tribal Council, Lake Excavating Ltd/NNTC were contracted to build section 3A of the Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission Line Project. Lake Excavating Ltd./ NNTC JV responsibility inside of Section 3A was similar in scope to that of 2C & 2E which it completed a year before.

2014 – Hazeltine Creek Remediation Project

The Scope of Work Included:

Working in partnership with the Williams Lake Indian Band, Lake Excavating Ltd. was contracted in 2014 to remediate the environmental impact to the Hazeltine Creek caused by the failure of the Mount Polley earth dam.

2014 – 35th Street Construction

The Scope of Work Included:

In 2014 Lake Excavating Ltd., was contracted to complete the Coal Water site development and construction of 35th Street in Whitecourt, AB. In early 2014 Lake Excavating Ltd. began the underground deep utility installation on 35th street and completed the build with a new asphalt road, concrete curbs & sidewalk as well as shaped landscaped boulevards.

2014 – Hilltop Phase 9 Industrial Park

The Scope of Work Included:

In the summer of 2014, Lake Excavating Ltd. was contracted by Avion Developments to build Hilltop’s Phase 9 Industrial Park; a 36-acre industrial site. Lake Excavating Ltd. used its large scraper fleet and haul trucks to achieve the correct cut and fill balance required by the project in particularly difficult wet and boggy terrain.

Major Works 2013

Phase 7&8 Hilltop Industrial Development – Whitecourt, Alberta

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating Ltd., in partnership with Avion Developments was contracted in late 2012 & early 2013, to develop the industrial lots on Hilltop’s Phase 7 & 8 design build. This project was completed in particularly difficult wet and bogy ground conditions that were covered by a small forest.  Lake Excavating extensively used its rock truck and scraper fleet to achieve moving the large amounts of earth that resulted in this project.

Section 2E/2C ILM 5L83 BC HYDRO/ Flatiron Graham Clearing & Access – Boston Bar/ Hope, BC

The scope of work included:

Working in partnership with the NNTC First Nations Tribal Council, Lake Excavating Ltd/NNTC were contracted to build sections of the Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission Line Project. The entire ILM line is a new 500kV transmission line (5L83 line) that extends approximately, 249km from the Nicola Substation near Merrit, BC to the Meridian Substation in Coquitlam, BC.

South East Sanitary Sewer Upgrade – Ft. St. John, BC

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating Ltd. was awarded the public tender to perform the South East Sanitary Sewer Mainline upgrade in Ft. St. John. The project was a very deep and complex operation that required expert construction methodology in performing excavations up to 30 feet deep with the inclusion of shoring boxes, directionally drilling and mainline sanitary sewer remediation. The project started in the UFA Card Lock Facility along the Alaska Hwy Frontage Road North to the 86th Street Cross, crossing the Alaska Hwy by means of directional drilling, coming to an end at the south end of 90th street in Fort St. John.

Horizon North Camps & Catering 300mm Directionally Drilled Waterline & Camp Site Reclamation – Fox Creek, Alberta

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating Ltd. working in conjunction with Helix Engineering was awarded the opportunity to build a 3.2km pressurized 300mm HDPE waterline from the town of Fox Creek, AB, to the 200 man camp-site operated by Horizon North Camps & Catering. Lake Excavating had also been given approval to properly extract the bad material that the 200 man camp was sitting on and move it to a designated waste site.

The scope of work included:

In 2012, Gibraltar mine contracted Lake Excavating Ltd. to perform the upgrade of what was the current emergency and potable water system for Gibraltar mine site.

Gibraltar Mine, MSE Rock Wall – GDP3 Project:

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating Ltd. has built lock block and MSE based walls at industrial sites in various locations but most recently we have built a 30 ft high MSE wall designed to be the truck ramp for mine trucks feeding a new concentrator on Gibraltar’s GDP3 project. We have extensive experience and skilled staff in the concrete work area ranging from wall construction to footing and slab work.

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating was contracted to perform the demolition of old out of service concrete tunnels for Gibraltar Mines GDP3 Project. The scope of work also included performing finish grade on the Moly building area.

Gibraltar Mine, Sand Dam Raise – GDP3 Project:

The scope of work included:

Lake Excavating Ltd has done several Dam Raise projects in the last 24 months but most recently was the 2012 Sand Dam Raise which consisted of bringing the tailings dams to appropriate heights to meet environmental standards and also to meet the continual growth of the mine itself.

Major Projects 2011:

Most recently, Lake Excavating has been working at the Gibraltar Mine, just outside of Williams Lake, BC.  As one of the largest open-pit mines in all of Canada, Lake Excavating has conducted a number of projects here.  This includes working on the GDP3, the Tailings Dam Raise and Mud Haul.

Highway 32 Slope Stability

Lake Excavating Ltd. worked alongside Thurber Engineering Ltd. to complete the Highway 32 Slope Stability project for Alberta Transportation in the Town of Whitecourt.  Lake Excavating completed 30,000 m3 of granular borrow material placed for slope stabilization abutment.  In addition to this, Lake Excavating completed borrow pit development and restoration, as well as replacement of native topsoil and placement of imported growth medium and hydro-seeding.

Other Major Projects

 

City of Fort St. John Sanitary Trunk Main

Lake Excavating worked alongside engineers from Urban Systems Ltd. to install a Sanitary Trunk Main for the City of Fort St. John.  This project included the installation of a 3,000 m sanitary main line, up to 10 m deep, with diameters of 750, 900 and 1,200 mm’s.  In addition to this scope of work, Lake also constructed 24 PVC and concrete manholes, tie-in and out flow structures, and an 80 m Augered Crossing and piping installation under CN Rail, utilizing PVC-fused pipe.

 

City of Fort St. John Enerplex Complex

This project consisted of installing a rain water reservoir tank, containing a 50,000 gallon underground cast-in-place and re-enforced concrete tank for the City of Fort St. John.  This tank is used to store roof-top rain water for irrigation.  Another project Lake completed at this complex was for DGS Astro-Paving.  Here, Lake completed major storm sewer works including Storm-Ceptors and diversion chambers, as well as excavating and sub-grading work for the parking lot site.

 

Aquatera Sanitary Trunk Main Phase 1

Installation of an 850 m Sanitary Main line with 1,200 mm diameter of PVC, up to 11 m deep in Grande Prairie, AB.  With the support of engineers from Focus Corporation, Lake installed the Sanitary Trunk Main, constructed 8 2,200 mm manholes and completed live tie-ins to the existing trunk main.

 

Cariboo Regional District Transfer Station Operation

This project was carried out from 2004 until 2010 in Williams Lake, BC.  Lake Excavating provided staff and managed the transfer station for civil waste disposal for the Cariboo Regional District.  This project comprised of reloading, hauling and delivering of civil waste by means of tractors and 75 m3 walking floor trailers.

 

Retail Development
A 40 Acre Retail development site which included major off-site roadways and services. Site development and pad completion for Wal-mart Canada as the primary tenant. Site included moving 700,000m3 of materials and 100,000m3 of blasted rock.

Blue Ridge Rd. Extension and Upgrading. – Industrial

  • Upgrading approximately 600m of existing two-lane rural cross-section roadway into an arterial standard four lane urban cross-section.
  • Project required crossing a major electric transmission facility as well as extension of water and sanitary sewer trunk mains.
Mink Creek Road Extension, Phase 1 and 2 – Commercial/Industrial

 

 

  • A 400 m extension of an existing four lane urban cross-section arterial roadway to service a new development area
  • Included construction of a major storm sewer trunk line and extension of water and sewer trunk mains

  • 30 acre subdivision constructed in a low lying area
  • Required extensive organics removals
  • Drainage included construction of a 2.5 km long drainage ditch, averaging 4 to 5 m deep with 6:1 side slopes
  • Subdivision was brought to grading by compacting in place excavated material from the ditch

  • Upgrading approximately 1 km of a major arterial roadway from two lane rural cross-section to four lane urban cross-section

  • Work completed on a very tight schedule to facilitate store opening
